No two people grieve alike and grief is like no other experience we know. It is often helpful to join a support group where you can be with others who are also grieving a loss. Support groups provide an instant community of others who are also learning to live with a loss. They provide an instant community and often help to normalize grief. There are many different types of support groups and you should take the time to interview or talk to the group facilitator to learn about the group prior to joining. This process will help you to gain insight into what the group can offer and to determine if it will be of value and benefit to your needs. There are three types of groups most commonly available: Open Groups - the membership changes from meeting to meeting with no start or close date. “Compassionate Friends” would be a good example. Closed Groups - these groups have a set time period that they meet and may take place within a six- to nine-week session. The membership of this group commits to attending every session together. Specific Loss Groups - for some people it is helpful to find a group where all have experienced a similar loss, such as parents who have lost children, young spouses or mothers. For your convenience we offer the following listing, which is updated in January of each year. Following this geographically sorted table is a listing of support groups by type. | Compassionate Friends | 303-281-8452 | Bereaved Parents | | Parents of Murdered Children | 303-772-6004 | Homicide Survivors | | | | | Parker | | | | Colorado Fetal and Newborn Loss | 303-344-7597 | Spanish available | | MISS Foundation | 303-841-4152 | Stillborn, neonatal and early childhood death Contact: Leslie Clemensen | Mothers in Sympathy and Support | 303-378-4300 | Support group to help after a stillbirth or newborn loss Contact: Corrine O\'Flynn | | | | | | Westminster | | | | AARP/Widowed Person Services | 303-764-5996 | Monthly support group | | Colorado Counseling Professionals | 303-430-4010 | Individual counseling | | | | | Wheat Ridge | | | | Exempla Lutheran Hospice | 303-403-7283 | Ongoing, drop-in grief support groups for adults, offered during the day or night; Grief education for the bereaved spous; First Steps - grief support for the newly bereaved | | MADD | 303-425-5902 | 24-hour helpline: 1-800-MADD-HELP | | Solace | 303-425-2229 | Newborn or pregnancy loss | Support Groups Listed by Type GRIEF SUPPORT GROUPS FOR CHILDREN AND TEENS Aurora St. Michael\'s (303) 690-6797 Contact: Mary Steincamp Boulder Healing Circles – groups for children 5-11, teens 12-18, and parents (303) 604-5300 Denver The Denver Hospice\'s Footprints Program - (303) 321-2828 Contact: Annie Bomberg Judi\'s House - peer groups for children 3 - 18 (720) 941-0331 Namaste Comfort Care - support groups for children, teens and adults (303) 860-9915 Porter Hospice - (303) 561-5100 Rainbows for all God’s Children - 1-800-266-3206 Rainbows, United Methodist Church - (303) 839-1493 Evergreen Mt.
